Titles: 7th Earl of Hertford; 6th Earl of Gloucester; 9th Lord of Clare; Lord of Glamorgan.
The manor: Gilbert inherited the manor from his father and held it between 1262-95.
Honoured:  Knight of the realm.
Battles: Gilbert f ought in the second Barons' War. and at the Battle of Lewes. He changed sides, he was excommunicated and labelled a rebel. He also fought at the Battle of Kenilworth and at the Battles of Evesham.
Post held: Gilbert was joint Guardian of England, during the King Edward I's absence at The Crusades.
 
Castles: Gilbert built Caerphilly Castle.
Marriage: He married twice.
Father Richard de Clare, Earl of Hertford.
Mother Matilda de Lacey.
