 The Medieval Manor House


Above: The manor of Thornbury originally had a medieval manor house. This can be seen on the plans of the castle grounds. The manor house was burned to the ground. The picture above is an impression of what the manor house may have looked like.  Above:  In the 1970s a tree blown over in a storm revealed the foundations of the original manor houes.
   
Above: Here we can see the archaelogical excavation that was undertaken.  Above:  These medieval tiles were uncovered.
   
Above: This photo is of the original manor house framed in red at the core of Tredegar House, Newport, Wales. The William and Mary additions on the left were added to make a new frontage. The old manor house is still visible especially from the inner courtyard in the photo on the right. Above: The inner courtyard showing the medieval manor house.
